What helps you stay well?

About the programme

Hipster retired senior couple in love enjoying cappuccino at outdoor cafeteria - Joyful elderly lifestyle concept with wife and husband having fun at bar cafe restaurant - Vivid neon lights filterThis is our health is a public conversation about how we can work together to help people in Northern Ireland live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Most of what shapes our health happens in everyday life, at home, with family and in our communities. It’s not just when we come into contact with health and social care services.

At the same time, there are moments when services matter hugely, and when they need to work well, quickly and reliably.

This work is about understanding both and exploring where each of us is best placed to make a difference.

Thank you!

More than 11,000 people across Northern Ireland have taken part in This is our health.

You told us what matters most to you, what needs to change, what would help you live a healthier life and what you need from health and care services to make that possible.

But we didn’t ask you to take part just so we could listen. We asked because things need to change. And that change needs all of us.

Your ideas, experiences and priorities are now helping us shape a new way forward, built on a shared commitment between the people of Northern Ireland and those who provide health and care.

What happens next?

We’re turning what you told us into clear priorities and practical commitments, things we can work on together and make progress you can see. We’ll be sharing more very soon, including what happens next and how you can continue to be involved.

This is our health and we all have a part to play.

More information

This is our health is a new public engagement programme led by the Department of Health, with support from the Public Health Agency and HSC partners. Its aim is to listen to people and start developing a shared “health and care promise” — an agreement between the public and the HSC system about how we can all play a bigger part, so people can live healthier lives and services can focus their efforts where they are needed most.
